Lady Gaga and Celine Dion Shine at Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, bienvenue au Paris!

On July 26, 2024, Lady Gaga and Celine Dion both had outstanding performances during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The celebration, culture, and music all came together to capture the essence of the Games.

Celine Dion's Magnificent Comeback

After being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, Celine Dion hit the stage in Paris for her first public performance in years. After the Olympic cauldron was ignited, Dion brought the ceremony to a close with a stirring performance of Edith Piaf's "Hymne à l'amour," despite the gloomy weather. Social media was flooded with praise for her performance.

In a heartfelt message, Dion expressed her joy and gratitude: "I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance. Whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud. My heart is with you!"

Lady Gaga’s Stylish Tribute

Earlier in the ceremony, Lady Gaga wowed the crowd with a stylish number, serenading them with “Mon Truc En Plume” in tribute to French dancer and actor Zizi Jeanmaire. Accompanied by dancers with pink feather fans, Gaga’s performance was a visual and auditory delight.

Following her performance, Gaga shared her gratitude on social media: "Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music. I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the heart of France and celebrate French art and music."

Sightings and Performances in Public

Both of the music icons were spotted in public earlier in the week in Paris, which led to the event. In an interview with Vogue France, Dion alluded to her impending trip to Paris by talking about her preparation and her wish to see the Eiffel Tower once more. She also showed her affection for Paris on Instagram by posting pictures from the Louvre.

Dion, who has been transparent about her health issues, announced that she would be postponing her "Courage World Tour" to May 2023. The new documentary "I Am: Celine Dion," which is streaming on Prime Video, chronicles her journey and her will to get back on stage.

As for Gaga, she was spotted in Paris earlier in the week, interacting with fans. She also announced new music at the end of her HBO concert special, “Gaga Chromatica Ball,” teasing her seventh studio album. Gaga has also been busy filming “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the sequel to the 2019 “Joker” film, where she plays Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
