Olympic highlight of the day: Simone Biles finishes an amazing comeback by herself on the floor

Simone Biles returned to the Olympics three years after withdrawing from the team gymnastics final, but this time she felt different and more determined than ever. Biles ascended the stage as the evening's last act to win the gold for Team USA. Taylor Swift's routine began when the opening strains of a song flooded the Bercy Arena.

Biles was prepared.

Her special fusion of speed, power, and grace produced an unforgettable moment that will live on in the annals of Olympic gymnastics. She performed her act perfectly, even bouncing back from a small misstep with poise.

I had a sneaking suspicion that we would succeed as long as I landed on my feet on every pass. Thus, as soon as I went outside the marked area, I thought, "Well, there's a line. I guess. It's not that big of a deal," the woman remarked.

Under the brightest of lights, Biles gave a performance fit for a king, showcasing to the world the mental tenacity she has honed over years of treatment and self-work. Even though Biles is only 4-foot-8, her grit and heart are far bigger than her size.

"It was really exciting to start therapy this morning at the beginning of the day." After that, I told her I felt at ease and prepared," Biles said of her getting ready. "And that's pretty much exactly what took place."

She had triumphed, but the memories of Tokyo lingered.

I felt glad once I had completed vault. "Wooo, because please, no flashbacks or anything," I said," she recalled. But I was so relieved. And I immediately thought, "Oh, yeah, I'm definitely (OK), we're gonna do this," as soon as I touched down at airport.

Jordan Chiles, a teammate, expressed happiness following Biles's vault and joined in the relief.

"Yeah, thank God, no memories of this. Nothing, Chiles replied. "Well, I thought, all she has to do is carry on as usual. That's why I was jumping up and down in relief.

Biles was the life of the party in the City of Light from the moment she walked into the Bercy Arena on Sunday until the medal ceremony on Tuesday. Every step was closely watched, particularly after she worsened a calf issue on Sunday during warm-ups.

Biles persevered through the competition in spite of the injury, making it to the individual all-around finals and the individual vault, floor, and balancing beam contests. Fears of another Tokyo were immediately dashed when Biles played in the team final without showing any symptoms of an injury. Whether it was the heat in Paris or the adrenaline, but Biles, who is 27 years old and the oldest American gymnast to win an Olympic medal, went back to 2016.

Biles recognized the importance of her performance this time. She must have known she had done enough when she gripped the floor equipment and stared at the huge screen of the Bercy Arena while she waited for her result. Her pleasure was uncontrollable when the score of 14.666 flashed, confirming the gold.

Along with her teammates, Biles enjoyed the celebration by posing with the American flag and taking in the crowd's cries of "U-S-A! U-S-A!" With gold around her neck at the medal ceremony, Biles must have felt she had overcome the biggest obstacle in sports.

I'm a lot older now, and we've done this before, so we're really enjoying ourselves and what we're doing out here. Thus, I believe it's just distinct," Biles considered.

The individual all-around, vault, beam, and floor events are still to come; Biles is not yet done. She can, however, celebrate her win for the time being and know that she has cemented her position in gymnastics and Olympic history.
