Katie Ledecky: The GOAT of Swimming

In the women's 1500-meter freestyle on Wednesday, American swimmer Katie Ledecky won yet another gold medal at the Olympics, solidifying her place as the greatest swimmer of all time (GOAT).

Her effort in the women's 1500m freestyle at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris shattered the previous record, which she herself held. By the end of the race, the Bethesda native had left her rivals so far behind that the cameraman had to squint to get a picture of the remaining field.

Ledecky's Stunning Olympic Gold Medal Haul Ledecky's Olympic career started in London in 2012 and continued with appearances in the Rio Olympics in 2016, the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, and now Paris in 2024. She has accumulated an amazing twelve Olympic medals throughout the years, eight of them are gold. The summary is as follows:

2012 London: 800m freestyle gold medal
2016 Rio: Gold, freestyle 200 meters; Gold, freestyle 400 meters; Gold, freestyle 800 meters; Gold, freestyle 4x200 meters; Silver, freestyle 4x100 meters
2020 Tokyo: Gold in the 800-meter freestyle, 1500-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle, and 4-200-meter freestyle relay in silver.
2024 Paris: 400-meter freestyle bronze; 1500-meter freestyle gold
On Thursday, Ledecky will participate in the 4x200m freestyle relay, which might earn her another medal and make her the most decorated American woman to have competed in the Olympics.
Record Times and Unrivaled Power
Ledecky has broken world records more than a dozen times and now holds the 800 and 1500m freestyle world records. Amazingly, she holds the top 20 fastest times in the history of the women's 1500m freestyle. Her supremacy also extends to the 800m freestyle, in which she has never lost in both Olympic and world championship events.
